ActOnCo2 v1 displays the breakdown of the final result as the following totals and sub-totals:

Home - the sum of

• Lighting
• Heating

Appliances - the sum of

• Kitchen
• Entertainment
• Study
• Other

Transport - sum of

• Cars+motorbikes
• Flights

How the breakdown is performed depends on overrides which apply when the user has given bill data.

"Other" (under appliances) is special in that it is not directly related to any question the user has answered; it is calculated in different ways as part of the override.

Transport isn't involved in the overrides.

The inferred (i.e. not based on bill data) totals, expressed in tonnes of CO2 per year are:

home - the sum of all profile items returned from:

• /home/lighting
• /home/heating

appliances - the sum of all profile items returned from:

• /home/appliances/cooking
• /home/appliances/kitchen/generic
• /home/appliances/entertainment/generic
• /home/appliances/computers/generic
• /home/appliances/televisions/generic

transport - the sum of all profile items returned from:

• /transport/car/generic
• /transport/motorcycle/generic
• /transport/plane/generic

These are further broken down into subtotals as follows:

lighting

• /home/lighting

heating

• /home/heating (note will be split into space and water heating in v2)

kitchen

• /home/appliances/cooking
• /home/appliances/kitchen/generic

entertainment

• /home/appliances/entertainment/generic
• /home/appliances/televisions/generic

study

• /home/appliances/computing/generic

Note: in the current AMEE PSUs are in /home/appliances/entertainment/generic but in v1 actonco2 they are included in the study total.

The bill values expressed in tonnes of CO2 per year are each based on one profile item from either:

• /home/energy/quantity - if the amount fuel was given

or

• /home/energy/uk/price - if the � of fuel used was given

The bill values referred to below are either:

• electricity
• fuel (one of gas, oil, coal, biomass, lpg)

When the user hasn't given bill data, the inferred totals and subtotals are displayed to the user without modification, except for "Other" (see Displayed totals) which is calculated as:

0.0526*(lighting+appliances)

The displayed "Heating" value is displayed as the "fuel" value.

Case 2a electricity <= lighting + appliances

"Other" is zero.

The following inferred totals:

lighting, appliances, kitchen, entertainment, study

are multiplied by this factor and displayed to the user:

electricity / (lighting + appliances)

Case 2b electricty > lighting + appliances

"Other" is the difference:

electricity - (lighting + appliances)

All these inferred values are displayed to the user:

lighting, appliances, kitchen, entertainment, study

Case 3a electricity <= lighting + appliances + heating

"Other" is zero

The following inferred totals:

heating,lighting, appliances, kitchen, entertainment, study

are multiplied by this factor and displayed to the user:

electricity / (lighting + appliances + heating)

Case 3b electricty > lighting + appliances + heating

"Other" is the difference:

electricity - (lighting + appliances + heating)

All these inferred values are displayed to the user:
